The incident took place in Karnataka’s Dharwad on Wednesday. The deceased doctor was identified as Kiran Hannanwar, who was working as an anesthesiologist at Chirayu Hospital. His bloody body was recovered from a seven-storey building in Dharwar.
It is alleged that the doctor was hacked to death with a sharp weapon. Their eight-year-old son was also attacked. He was rescued and admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries.
The family claims that since Tuesday night, Kiran’s wife Priyanka answered the phone after repeated attempts to contact her. Sometimes he said that Kiran was resting. Later he said Kiran had gone to work. This creates suspicion among relatives.
Family members came to the flat on Wednesday evening after not getting any response for a long time. They opened the door and saw a bloody scene. The deceased has been identified as 20-year-old Arun Kumar, a resident of the area.
Investigators found blood stains throughout the flat. Kiran was lying in a bloody state in a room. Their son is lying injured in another room. Police Commissioner N Sachikumar reached the spot and found that the child was still alive. He was rushed to the hospital.
Preliminary investigation revealed that only the husband, wife and their son were in the flat at the time of the incident. No evidence of outside entry has yet been found. The cause of the incident, when the attack took place, who the accused spoke to before or after, are all under investigation.
Kiran’s wife Priyanka is also an ophthalmologist. In this incident, the police filed a case of murder. The accused is being interrogated and efforts are on to ascertain the cause of the incident. However, the officials said that Priyanka, who was mentally disturbed, made irrelevant comments during the interrogation.
