GUWAHATI: A theft was reported at the Digambar Jain Mandir in Fancy Bazar, Guwahati, in the early hours of Thursday, July 30, with the temple committee subsequently lodging a formal complaint with the police.

According to police officials from the Fancy Bazar Police Outpost, CCTV footage showed that the suspected thief entered the temple premises by climbing a tree from the back street.
Police said the incident took place at around 1:55 AM on Thursday, while a formal complaint was filed by the temple committee later that evening.
As per the complaint, the miscreant allegedly broke open the temple’s donation box and stole around ₹50,000–₹60,000.
A temple committee member said the suspected thief entered the premises from the rear side, where the temple also has a guest house.
Speaking to GPlus, the member said, “"The thief entered the temple premises from the back side of the temple, where we have a guest house”.
“There has been a rise in the number of drug addicts in the locality. We suspect that the miscreant was one among them,” the committee member said.
The Digambar Jain Mandir is located on SRCB Road in Fancy Bazar, near Railway Gate 3, one of Guwahati’s busiest commercial areas.
