GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across isolated places in Assam from July 30 to August 1. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has issued an advisory urging residents to remain vigilant.

According to an ASDMA press release issued on Wednesday, July 29, the weather system is also expected to affect neighbouring districts of Assam due to heavy rainfall forecast in parts of Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland.
An Orange Alert has been issued for Tinsukia district. Heavy to very heavy rainfall in parts of Arunachal Pradesh, including East Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Longding, Lower Subansiri and Lower Dibang Valley, may affect neighbouring Tinsukia, Dhemaji and Lakhimpur districts of Assam.
Meanwhile, orange alerts issued for Mon, Mokokchung and Wokha districts of Nagaland may impact neighbouring Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts.
The weather pattern is likely to bring thunderstorms with lightning and heavy rainfall of 6–11 cm per day at isolated places in parts of Arunachal Pradesh. Very heavy rainfall of 12–20 cm per day is also likely at isolated places over Papum Pare.
ASDMA warned that the rainfall could aggravate waterlogging, flooding and flash floods, slow vehicular movement and increase the risk of localised landslides in vulnerable areas.
District authorities and ASDMA are closely monitoring the situation, with emergency response systems kept on alert.
ASDMA has urged residents in the affected districts to take necessary precautions and remain vigilant. Daily commuters and long-distance travellers have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents in low-lying and hilly areas have been specifically advised to stay alert for signs of flooding or landslides and follow updates and advisories issued by local authorities.
