The action comes days after a video showing alleged unhygienic conditions at Nancy Ice Cream Factory in Guwahati went viral on social media, prompting scrutiny of the facility.
Speaking with GPlus, Satyabrat Dutta, an official of the Commissionerate of Food Safety, Assam, said a team visited the location on Monday, August 17. Although the factory had cleaned the premises by the time of inspection, officials found several other issues that did not comply with food safety requirements.
“We visited the spot on Monday and they had already cleaned the area. However, there were several other issues that did not comply with our regulations, so we issued an advisory to them,” Dutta said.
A similar advisory was also issued to another ice cream manufacturing unit, Gopal Ice Industry, located in the same area.
Dutta further said that both factories have been temporarily shut and will remain closed until they fulfil the required food safety regulations and address the violations identified during the inspection.
