GUWAHATI: A lack of designated parking space along AT Road beside the Rupkonwar Jyoti Prasad Agarwala Flyover in Guwahati, continues to create inconvenience for pedestrians and motorists alike, with vehicles frequently seen parked partly on the footpath and partly on the roadway.

The area witnessed four-wheelers occupying large portions of the narrow footpath, forcing pedestrians to walk on the road. The situation has also reduced the effective width of the carriageway, contributing to congestion along the busy stretch.
Residents and commuters say the problem has persisted for a long time, particularly during business hours when demand for parking exceeds available space.
With no dedicated parking facility nearby, many vehicle owners resort to parking along the roadside and over the footpath.
Speaking to GPlus, a traffic police official stationed in the area said, “We are planning to install a ‘No Parking’ signboard in the area soon. We issue challans here regularly, but many people continue to park their vehicles illegally. In some cases, they even argue with officials when questioned about the violation.”
The recurring scene highlights the growing pressure on urban infrastructure in Guwahati, where increasing vehicle numbers and limited parking facilities are often at odds.
While enforcement measures continue, the situation points to the need for a more sustainable parking solution to ensure pedestrian safety and smoother traffic movement along the AT Road corridor.
