GUWAHATI: A man was brutally assaulted and murdered overnight near the Kamakhya Temple premises, two police officials confirmed on Thursday, July 9.

The victim has been identified as Rupam Das, a Kamakhya local, who was in his late thirties.
“We suspect that they had some fight in the heat of the moment. They were possibly also under the influence of alcohol. The victim was attacked with sticks and rods,” a police official said.
The suspected murderer, Rahul Pathak, originally hails from Barpeta and is a resident of the Kamakhya locality currently.
The accused has been apprehended by the police, and further investigation is underway.
