GUWAHATI: Para-athlete Lisha Das of Biswanath district is set to represent India at the XXIII Commonwealth Games, to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026.

Lisha, a Class XI student of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Biswanath, has been selected to compete in the para track cycling event. At 16 years of age, she is the youngest athlete in the entire Indian contingent for the Commonwealth Games 2026, marking her as the first para-athlete from Assam ever to compete at the Games.
The Paralympic Association of Assam has extended its congratulations to Lisha on her selection, calling her achievement a matter of immense pride for the state. Her participation is expected to serve as a source of motivation for thousands of aspiring para-athletes across Assam.
Rajesh Kumar Verma, Principal of JNV Biswanath, has also lauded her journey, describing her achievement as an example of courage, resilience and dedication that brings pride not just to her school but to the entire state and nation.
India will send a 124-member contingent to Glasgow 2026, competing across athletics, boxing, weightlifting, judo, artistic gymnastics, track cycling, lawn bowls, swimming, and five para-sports including para track cycling.
Lisha Das's inclusion in the squad is a historic milestone for Assam's para-sports movement, and her journey from Biswanath to the global stage is set to inspire a new generation of athletes in the state
