Trinamool Congress All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee seems to be no exception. A CID team arrives at his house to investigate another case the day after appearing in one case. CID reached Abhishek Banerjee’s Kalighat residence on Friday in a fresh case of making inflammatory comments during election campaign.
But when the CID officers reached Abhishek’s house, he was not at home. He was reportedly busy in an important meeting at party supremo Mamata Banerjee’s residence at the time. CID officials are waiting in front of Abhishek Banerjee’s house till he returns.
Earlier on Thursday, Abhishek Banerjee was interrogated for five hours at Bhavani Bhavan. After the interrogation, the Trinamool general secretary left Bhavani Bhavan and went straight to Mamata Banerjee’s house.
According to sources, an emergency meeting was held there at midnight. However, nothing is clear about what questions were asked to Abhishek or what was discussed between them for five hours at Bhavani Bhavan. He has been directed to appear again on the 14th, sources said.
Abhishek Banerjee was scheduled to appear before the CID on Thursday in a case of forging signatures in the Assembly. But earlier he appealed to the High Court seeking protection from arrest in this case. During the hearing of the case before Justice Kaushik Chand on Thursday, the CID made it clear that Abhishek needed to be arrested. The court directed Abhishek to appear by 6 pm on Thursday, but also granted him legal protection for three weeks. After that, CID started investigating another case. A case against Abhishek Banerjee’s comments about DJing has been registered with the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police and the CID is now investigating the case.
