Saikia, who currently serves as BCCI's Honorary Secretary, has had a steady rise through cricket administration, from his early days with the Assam Cricket Association to representing BCCI as an ICC Board Director, and now stepping into this global governance role.
He was recently seen at Lord's Cricket Ground in London alongside ICC Chairman Jay Shah and cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, reflecting his growing stature in international cricket circles.
Reacting to the news, the Assam Cricket Association posted a congratulatory message calling it "a historic milestone for Assam cricket," praising Saikia's journey "from Assam to the peak of international cricket administration."
Officials and cricket well-wishers across the state have hailed the appointment as a proud moment, not just for Assam, but for Indian cricket as a whole.
