The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) recently arrested Kalni Impex Limited and its director Dharmesh Sangani. His wife Ranjita Sangani and Narendra Sangani at different addresses. The raid was accompanied by a case of violation of the Foreign Exchange Management Act, aka FEMA. During the raid, a shocking incident took place where Dharmesh Sangani allegedly threw down his mobile phone from the 13th floor of a building. The ED claimed that Sangani did this with the intention of destroying the evidence against him. However, the phone was later recovered and the ED registered a case with the Mumbai police.
Dharmesh Sangani is a film producer and co-founder of popular actor Shekhar Suman’s Film Academy. The drive was launched after Shekhar Suman recently made satirical comments against the government and government policies on a YouTube channel. However, various news reports suggest that the current investigation is limited to the Sangani family and their organization. Actor Shekhar Suman has nothing to do with it and is not under investigation.
According to the ED, the Kalni Impex Ltd company was accused of failing to bring funds from abroad to India on time. As per rules after exporting the goods to the foreign buyer the money is deposited in the Bank of India within the stipulated period. But this company did not make any arrangements for him. Investigation also revealed that the money was transferred from a third party instead of the buyer named in the export documents. Besides, many undeclared foreign assets and foreign bank accounts were also found during the raid, the ED said.
