Gauhati University Hosts Bicycle Rally on World Bicycle Day


 

GUWAHATI: A bicycle rally was organised at Gauhati University on Wednesday morning, June 3, to mark World Bicycle Day, with over 70 participants taking part.

The rally began at around 6 AM from the university’s main gate and went up to Assam Engineering College (AEC) before returning to the campus.

The event was held in association with ESAF Foundation and Gauhati University NSS unit. It was inaugurated by Registrar Prof. Utpal Sarma in the presence of Director of Students’ Welfare Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati, cyclist Kaushik Guha, and representatives of ESAF Foundation.

Speaking to GPlus, the Director of Students’ Welfare Dr. Ranjan Kumar Kakati said, “On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, this initiative was taken to promote awareness about fitness and encourage cycling as part of a healthy lifestyle. With fuel prices rising, cycling is also being seen as a practical alternative for short-distance travel.”
