GUWAHATI: A Glasgow-based Indian restaurant has apologised after Assam boxer and Olympic medallist Lovlina Borgohain flagged an inaccurate map of India displayed at the establishment during a celebratory dinner for the Indian boxing contingent at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Mister Singh’s India – The Home of Curry said it was proud of its Indian heritage and had never intended to offend anyone. The restaurant said it would immediately replace the logo with an accurate map of India and apologised to the Indian boxing contingent.
The controversy erupted after Borgohain noticed that the restaurant’s logo, printed on napkins and displayed outside the establishment, omitted India’s Northeast. In a video recorded at the venue, she urged the management to correct the design, saying the omission was hurtful to people from the region.
Boxing Federation of India president Ajay Singh also pointed out that the logo inaccurately depicted the boundaries of Jammu and Kashmir.
The video soon went viral on social media, drawing widespread criticism of the restaurant. The establishment later deactivated its official Instagram account as negative comments and poor ratings continued to pour in.
The incident occurred after India’s boxing contingent gathered at the restaurant to celebrate its historic performance at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, where the squad won 10 medals, including seven golds.
Mister Singh’s India has operated in Glasgow for more than three decades and has regularly hosted members of the Indian community and visiting dignitaries.
