GUWAHATI: A woman was allegedly robbed of her gold chain in a daylight chain-snatching incident near the Dinesh Goswami Flyover in Guwahati, triggering fresh concerns over public safety in the city.

According to police, the incident took place between 6 am and 7 am on July 1 at R.K. Choudhury Road beneath the flyover. The woman was walking along the road when a man allegedly approached her and snatched the gold chain from her neck before attempting to flee.
The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, providing crucial evidence for the investigation.
The accused's escape, however, was disrupted by the prompt response of local residents. As people began chasing him, the suspect reportedly abandoned the scooter he had used for the crime and fled the area on foot.
Residents at the scene seized the scooter and later handed it over to Bharalumukh Police as part of the investigation.
Speaking to GPlus, the Officer-in-Charge of Bharalumukh Police Station confirmed that an investigation is underway. Police are examining CCTV footage and other evidence to identify and apprehend the accused. No arrests had been made till now.
The incident has once again brought the issue of chain-snatching and street crime into focus, with residents expressing concern over the safety of pedestrians in the city, particularly during the early morning hours.
