The Monsoon Session of the Parliament starts from Monday. Earlier, according to tradition, the government called an all-party meeting today. NCPI was also invited there. And there the parliament witnessed the heated drama.
Opposition leaders staged a walkout from the all-party meeting today questioning NCPI’s participation. But soon they joined the meeting again.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju sent a letter to Trinamool Congress rebels in the Lok Sabha yesterday. However, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is yet to formally recognize the rebel MPs’ new party, the NCPI.
The argument of the opposition is that the speaker did not recognize the rebel MPs of the Trinamool, so how was he invited to this all-party meeting without recognition? The rebel MPs claim that they will not be allowed to sit with the Trinamool MPs. Later, accepting this demand, a separate bench was arranged for them.
The agenda of the government in this Monsoon session mainly focuses on various bills. The government wants to discuss the Electoral Boundaries Bill, Women Protection Bill and the proposed removal of the Prime Minister, Chief Ministers and Ministers in a new format.
Meanwhile, the opposition is planning to put pressure on the government on various issues. Opposition MPs can raise issues like the E-20 energy debate, inflation, foreign policy and corruption in Parliament.
“Monsoon session of parliament will start from tomorrow. The government has called a meeting of leaders of all parties today. We call on all political parties to contribute and cooperate for the smooth conduct of this monsoon session,” Rijiju said, adding that I hope all members of the ruling party and the opposition will participate in the work of legislation and bills brought by the government.
Rijiju added that the better Parliament works, the better the country will be. “I again call on leaders of all parties to ensure that Parliament works properly and contributes to the process. We will listen to the opposition and hope they will listen to us.”
