The US military has reportedly launched a major military operation off the coast of Iran. According to US Central Command, the operation hit about 90 Iranian military bases. These include air defense systems, missile bases, drone storage centers and other important military areas.
According to various reports, the attack also damaged Iran’s important port city of Sabar. The bomb was also reportedly hurled at the Maritime Traffic Control Tower of Savar Port, built with Indian assistance. Sabha Port is a very important strategic investment for India. Through this port, India connects Afghanistan and Central Asian countries using Iran route. Sabah’s port is of particular significance to India as an alternative route to Central Asia without depending on Pakistan.
After the attack, the Indian government began assessing the potential damage to the port. According to the news, the real picture of the damage to the port will be clear only after visiting the site. The incident raises concerns for New Delhi, as the Savar project is deeply intertwined with India’s regional connectivity, commercial interests and strategic planning.
Meanwhile, panic has spread in different parts of Iran after the US attack. According to Iranian state media, multiple explosions were heard in Sabar and nearby Konark region. Power services were also reported to have been completely disrupted in Sabha following the attack.
Not only in Sabah, but also in Bandar Abbas, another important port city of Iran, a massive attack was carried out. Iran’s state TV reported eight explosions in the eastern area of Bandar Abbas at midnight. An attack was also reported on a railway bridge in Golestan province.
Military conflicts have complicated the security situation in West Asia. The news of the loss of Sabar port has created new uncertainty for India’s strategic interests.
