GUWAHATI: Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul has directed the Soil Conservation Department to take immediate and appropriate measures to prevent erosion in the Latakata and Pilingkata areas, as concerns over monsoon-related damage were reviewed at a meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

The directive was issued during the second meeting of the Kamrup (Metro) DDMA, held on Tuesday, August 4, at the District Commissioner's office under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner.
The meeting also featured a presentation on the Post-Disaster Needs Assessment (PDNA) framework, aimed at strengthening damage assessment and recovery planning following natural disasters.
Officials reviewed the flood situation in various parts of Kamrup (Metro) district, while the Deputy Commissioner outlined the responsibilities of different departments during flood emergencies. Flood prevention measures for the Jorabat area also came up for detailed discussion.
Additional District Commissioner Raja Baishya, Circle Officers, and officials from the Public Works Department (PWD), Forest Department, Health Department, Social Welfare Department, Soil Conservation Department, Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), and other concerned departments attended the meeting.
