MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar resigned from all party posts

There has been a great change in the politics of West Bengal. Senior Trinamool Congress leader and Barasat MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar has resigned from all organizational posts in the party. He took the decision hours after attending an important administrative meeting presided over by Chief Minister Subvendu Adhikari. Earlier he had resigned from the post of Parliamentary District President in Barasa. This incident has now started speculation in the state whether he will join the BJP.

Four-time MP Kakali Ghosh Dastidar, who is known to be very close to Mamata Banerjee, expressed her anger against an MP within the party in her resignation letter. He said that the senior leadership of the party did not show any help or sympathy to stop the rude behavior of another uneducated and uncivilized male MP towards a woman MP. In this regard, he targeted MP Kalyan Banerjee, who was reinstated as the party’s chief whip in the Lok Sabha in place of Kakli after the election defeat. He said on social media that it was a reward for knowing Mamata Banerjee since 1976 and showing loyalty for a long time.

In the resignation letter, the MP cited not only party infighting, but also corruption in the state and the RG Kar Medical College tragedy. He said that the ration scam and teacher recruitment corruption had created intense discontent among the common people. He is also shocked to see the rape and murder of a woman doctor of RG Kar Medical College and the attempt to cover up the incident. However, he did not resign as an MP and remained a primary member of the party.

He took moral responsibility for Trinamool Congress’ defeat in five out of seven assembly seats in Barsa Lok Sabha constituency. He criticized I-PAC, an election strategy firm, for this. According to Kakali, the foreign agency that conducted the 2026 elections had no experience in playing elections and their working methods were wrong. He lamented that the organization misbehaved with the grassroots workers of the party as well.
