GUWAHATI: The police have apprehended a fake gold smuggler from North Guwahati and seized nearly six kilograms of suspected counterfeit gold during an operation carried out at Bhetamukh in Kamrup district on Wednesday, May 27.

The accused, identified as Mostakin alias Rafikul Islam, hails from Goreswar. Speaking to GPlus, the Inspector in-Charge of Gauripur Outpost said the seized consignment weighed approximately 5.970 kilograms.
“₹85,000 in cash along with a mobile phone were also recovered from the accused’s possession,” the police official added.
The suspect was transporting the fake gold consignment from Nayanpara when law enforcement authorities intercepted him.
Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
