GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Assam showed signs of improvement on Tuesday, July 28, with no deaths reported in the last 24 hours as water levels continued to recede across the affected districts.

According to the latest flood bulletin, 4,45,495 people remain affected by the floods across 631 villages. Floodwaters have submerged 37,139.52 hectares of agricultural land, while 2,56,334 animals continue to be affected. A total of 26,679 animals have been washed away during the floods.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he met Members of Parliament from Assam to review the prevailing flood situation in various parts of the state.
In a post on X, the Prime Minister said, "Met MPs from Assam and discussed the prevailing flood situation in various parts of the state. The Centre is working closely with the Assam Government in assisting those affected. I pray for everyone's safety and well-being."
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government's focus is now gradually shifting from immediate relief to restoration as floodwaters recede.
"As floodwaters begin receding, our focus is expanding from relief to restoration. Food, tarpaulins, cleaning supplies and other essentials are being distributed to help families return home and rebuild their daily lives," Sarma said in a post on X.
Authorities are continuing relief and restoration efforts in the affected areas as the overall flood situation improves across the state.
