GUWAHATI: Responding to questions about demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Assam, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, July 31, said there was no need to insist on a high-profile visit at this stage, as the Centre was already extending financial support and giving the state government the flexibility to take necessary decisions.

Sarma said the immediate priority should be continued Central support and coordinated relief efforts rather than a Prime Ministerial visit.
“Demanding the presence of the Prime Minister at this point is not necessary. The Prime Minister is already supporting us through financial assistance and empowering the state government to take whatever decisions are required. What we need right now is continued support and coordinated relief work,” the CM said.
He said both Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were closely monitoring the flood situation and had extended their support to the state government.
