GUWAHATI: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) convened the 2nd Quarter State-Level Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) Meeting of 2026 for Assam in Guwahati on Thursday, July 30, aimed at further strengthening coordinated action against drug trafficking in the region.

The meeting was chaired by Shri R. Sudhakar, IPS, Deputy Director General (NER), NCB. It saw participation from a wide range of central and state agencies, including the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Customs, CGST, Income Tax, DGGI, SIB, NIA, ED, DRI, the Drug Controller, Assam Rifles, BSF, and ITBP. District Superintendents of Police joined the proceedings virtually.
Deliberations at the meeting centered on strengthening Financial Investigations (FI) as an integral component of NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act investigations. Discussions also covered the implementation of intelligence-led enforcement, emerging drug trafficking trends specific to Assam, inter-agency coordination, and dismantling the financial infrastructure of trafficking syndicates through a whole-of-government approach.
The committee reviewed several significant cases, including the seizure of 80,000 Yaba tablets in Sribhumi District, resulting in the arrest of three accused, and the recovery of 669.734 kg of ganja concealed in 111 cargo parcels at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport, Guwahati, leading to five arrests.
Presentations during the meeting also highlighted evolving trafficking patterns, logistics-based delivery mechanisms, handheld baggage screening technology for railway enforcement, and efforts to strengthen the Assam Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) modeled on NCB protocols.
The meeting concluded with actionable directions to enhance joint interrogations, intelligence sharing, financial investigations, and coordinated enforcement operations, along with a renewed focus on cartel dismantling. Officials reaffirmed the collective commitment of all participating agencies toward achieving a Drug-Free Assam and a Drug-Free India.
