As part of the initiative, volunteers fitted reflective radium belts on around street dogs in the surrounding areas. The belts are intended to make the animals more visible to motorists under low-light conditions, thereby helping to reduce the risk of road accidents involving stray animals.
Speaking to GPlus, a Sarathi member said, “Today, we organised a radium belt distribution drive. During the programme, our members fitted around 30 radium belts on street dogs in the surrounding areas.”
Stray dogs and cattle are often involved in road accidents, particularly at night when visibility is poor. Reflective belts are increasingly being used by animal welfare groups and volunteers in different parts of the country as a measure to make animals more visible to drivers.
Sarathi, established in 2025, is a youth-led organisation involved in social welfare and community service activities.
