The disappointment of losing the IPL 2026 final was still there. Gujarat Titans are busy dealing with the shock of losing the trophy. Meanwhile, the accident happened. On the way back to the hotel, the team bus suddenly caught fire. Panic spread instantly. But the good news is that no cricketer or team members were injured. Everyone was able to get off the bus safely.
After the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday night, the Gujarat Titans players boarded a team bus and returned to their hotel. Preliminary investigation revealed that the bus caught fire due to short circuit. The fire was quickly doused and the cricketers were evacuated to safety.
In this incident, Subhash Gill’s team had to be stuck on the road for about an hour. Later on alternative arrangements were taken to a hotel. The team members are heaving a sigh of relief as no major accidents have occurred.
Gujarat Titans have had to go through a long journey and hectic schedule. The team reached Mulanpur from Dharamsala on 27 May and played a Qualifier-2 match there against Rajasthan Royals on 29 May. They were supposed to return to Ahmedabad on May 30 but could not reach the scheduled time due to bad weather. The team finally reached their base on Saturday evening.
Gujarat’s performance in the final also failed to live up to expectations. Against Royal Challengers Bangalore, the team scored just 155/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Later RCB won by five wickets.
After the game, Gujarat Titans director of cricket Vikram Solanki, however, did not want to use fatigue as an excuse. “We played a lot of matches, traveled a lot, but I don’t want to belittle RCB’s achievement because we are tired. Our scores were lower than expected,” he said. But the boys fought to the end.
“Looking back at the end of the match, you may think a lot could have been done differently. But you also have to accept that opponents can play good cricket at times,” he added.
Defeat in the final on one hand, the bus catching fire on the way back—all in all, Sunday night will undoubtedly be a nightmare for the Gujarat Titans.
