GUWAHATI: Restoration work is advancing on flood-damaged sections of the Northeast Frontier Railway's Tinsukia Division after heavy rainfall in upstream catchment areas caused the Dikhow River to overflow, inundating Simaluguri town station and its surrounding areas in Sibsagar district.

The floodwaters submerged parts of the Simaluguri station yard and the railway colony, and also overtopped tracks in several affected stretches, disrupting normal train operations in the region.
In response, the Tinsukia Division has mobilised a round-the-clock restoration effort, with engineering teams led by senior divisional officials working to repair the damage and resume services as quickly as possible.
The bulk of the repair work is currently concentrated in the Selenghat–Amguri section, where more than 200 workers, alongside railway engineers and supervisors, are engaged in track restoration, infrastructure strengthening, and continuous inspection of the affected stretches to ensure operations can resume safely.
A day earlier, crews had already carried out substantial restoration work in the Sivasagar Town-Simaluguri section, making steady headway despite difficult weather conditions.
Senior Northeast Frontier Railway officials are personally overseeing the restoration drive, with all relevant departments coordinating closely to limit service disruption and restore normal operations at the earliest opportunity. Officials reiterated that passenger safety remains the top priority throughout the restoration process.
