Seven Dead, Several Injured in Stampede-Like Incident at Bihar Temple


 

GUWAHATI: Seven people were killed and several others injured in a stampede-like incident at the Ashokdham Temple in Bihar’s Lakhisarai early Monday, according to reports.

The incident took place amid a heavy rush of devotees who had gathered at the temple on the third Monday of the holy month of Sawan. Most of those killed are reportedly women.

The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, while police are working to establish the identities of the deceased and inform their families.

Following the incident, officials and police teams reached the temple and launched rescue and relief efforts. The injured were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary described the incident as extremely tragic and directed the administration to ensure proper and prompt medical treatment for those injured.

The Chief Minister also announced financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each for the families of those who died in the incident.

The Ashokdham Temple, also known as the Shri Indradamaneshwar Mahadev Temple, houses a large Shivalinga and attracts a large number of devotees, particularly during the holy month of Sawan.
