Teacher Suspended After Arrest in POCSO Case in Assam’s Tezpur


 

GUWAHATI: A teacher at the Government Girls’ HS & MP School, Tezpur, has been placed under suspension following his arrest in connection with a POCSO case.

According to an official order from the Directorate of Secondary Education, Assam, the teacher, Subhrajyoti Sarmah, was arrested on May 16. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS and the POCSO Act, 2012.

Speaking to GPlus, the Superintendent of Police, Sonitpur, confirmed that a case has been filed and the accused is currently in police custody.

Following his arrest, the education department suspended him with immediate effect, as mentioned in a suspension letter dated May 19, and directed that he remain under the jurisdiction of the Inspector of Schools, Tezpur, during the suspension period. 

He has also been instructed not to leave headquarters without permission and to report to the department after release from custody. Further investigation is underway.
