Every day, airplanes take off from airports thousands of miles away. The planes that float in these skies carry millions of passengers to their destinations. But what if the airport floats? Not in the sky, but in the water. Airport to be implemented in Maharashtra.
The Maharashtra government is planning to build the country’s first floating airport. An order has already been issued for preparation of a report on the construction of a proposed airport on the west coast of Maharashtra. The airport will be connected to the North-Bira C-Link. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis directed the officials in charge to do so.
How different will this floating airport be from a normal airport? What benefits will it offer?
An airport constructed by constructing an artificial island above the sea is called a floating airport. This idea is not new in the world. Countries like Japan, China and South Korea have already implemented floating airports, which are now benefiting.
In fact, building an airport requires a lot of land, which is difficult to come by in populated areas. In this situation floating airport becomes an ideal option. The government believes that the project will transform the economic landscape of the Mumbai metropolitan area by connecting it with high-speed rail, Badhavan port and modern highways.
The Maharashtra government said the proposed floating airport would be built near Kor beach in Palghar district. About 90 million people will benefit from the airport every year. Badhavan seaport and connecting expressway are also under the project.

Experts say the government aims to improve Mumbai’s overall infrastructure by building seaports, airports and connecting expressways. If this project is implemented, the country’s economy will undoubtedly benefit.
