The film premiered at the Kolkata International Film Festival on November 11 last year. Dr. Pankaj Bora also wrote the story and screenplay. The film has already received nominations at various film festivals and Raju Roy won the Best Actor Award at the 8th Shaildhar Barua Film Awards. He also won the North East Spotlight Award at the Guwahati Asian Film Festival and the Best Editing Award at the North East India Film Festival (Manipur). The film is slated to hit theaters in Assam later this year.
The film opens with a sunny morning landscape. Tilu (Tileswar) caught fish in the river between the fields. Tilu’s house is by the river. Thilu lives there with his two children and wife (Vasant). The story of Tilu, a riverine fisherman and his family. The story of the river is a vivid depiction of the ups and downs of Thilu and his family, who earn their living by fishing and selling fish in the river every day. The plot of the movie is not conventional, but the story is so beautifully told and depicted that 1 hour 43 minutes is not boring at all. The film also has similar scenes, but each scene is new. Not boring at all.
The director and the storyteller have masterfully portrayed the poverty of the fisherman Tilau in new words. It’s a pity, but not only in the presentation of this scene, but the entire film lacks dramatic fat. This is director Bora’s first film. There are floods, droughts, not getting the right price for fish—etc., but Tilu somehow finds a solution. The main character Thilu (Raju Roy) is a very strong part of the film. The film ends with Tilu and Tilu’s family struggling.
The film is directed and filmed by Chida Bora. Chida Bora’s work is highly commendable. Also has editing by Sanjeev Gogoi. The use of background music suits the situation perfectly. The sound recording and sound composition by Devjit Gayon is also excellent. In terms of acting, Raju Roy is the main character. His acting is so beautiful that you will get attached to the character. Meghali Kalita’s performance as Vasant is also commendable. The story of fishermen’s suffering can move the audience. In short, ‘Noy Katha’ is a film that masterfully captures the film industry.
