Late businessman Sanjay Kapoor’s mother Rani Kapoor filed a fresh petition in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. They asked RK to refrain from interfering with the family trust during the mediation process.
According to reports, during the arbitration proceedings, the lawyer representing Rani Kapoor sought an order restraining Sanjay’s third wife Priya Sachdev Kapoor and other defendants from interfering in the affairs of the RK family trust.
An application has also been made to adjourn the May 18 board meeting. The meeting was organized by Raghuvanshi Investments Pvt Ltd, which owns a large chunk of the controversial family’s assets.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court refused to stop the board’s meeting, saying the controversial agenda should not be implemented during the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court.
The court also cautioned Priya’s legal team against taking any steps that could affect the mediation process.
The Supreme Court said it would review the progress of the mediation. Moreover, during this period, the RBI should not take any coercive measures or insist on compliance, the court indicated.
Rani Kapoor argues that the matter has already been referred for mediation and such a meeting would only worsen the matter. Priya and other opponents, on the other hand, argued that the meetings were called as per RBI’s rules and guidelines for appointment of directors.
“We have all come empty-handed and will leave empty-handed… we will only take our souls with us,” said Justice Pardiwala, who presided over the hearing.
“There must be a will to resolve the matter… one should not approach mediation with a heavy heart,” he added.
Rani Kapoor went to court challenging the scheduled meeting of a company called Raghuvanshi Investments Pvt Ltd, where she said RIPL owns many assets.
