The central government is now exploring the possibility of organizing a common national entrance test for engineering and medical admissions in the country. After the leak of the recently held NEET-UG 2026 question papers, government officials informed the Parliamentary Committee on Examination Irregularities.
Discussions are held within the government based on the recommendations of the high-level committee. A committee headed by Dr K Radhakrishnan, former chief of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) was formed following irregularities in the 2024 NEET-UG examination. The committee laid out a roadmap for comprehensive reform of examinations conducted by the National Examinations Authority (NTA) and recommended the development of a common examination system for graduate admissions.
With the implementation of this new system, major exams like JEE and NEET in the country will come under a common framework. It will have subject-wise separate sections for students of different disciplines, which will enable the admission process of both medical and engineering departments to be conducted simultaneously.
