Several districts of Uttar Pradesh were affected by heavy thunder, lightning and heavy rains. According to the latest reports, 89 people have died. Many houses were damaged. Uprooted trees and power poles disrupted public life and traffic.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered immediate relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. A video of the storm has gone viral on social media (the video has not been verified). Which shows a man being blown away by strong winds and thrown hundreds of feet.
The Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner’s office said in a post on its former handle that 53 people were seriously injured as of 12 noon on Thursday. 114 cattle died and 87 houses were damaged.
Chief Minister Adityanath has directed all divisional commissioners and district magistrates to provide relief to the affected families within 24 hours.
According to the list published by the Prayagraj district administration, seven people died in Handia area, four in Phulpur, three in Soraon, two in Meza and one in Sadar area.
At least 16 people died in Badohi district due to storm and rain. Fatehpur Additional District Magistrate Avinash Tripathi said nine people were killed and 16 injured in the district.
Four people were killed in separate incidents of wall collapse, cement shed collapse and lightning in Pratapgarh district. Superintendent of Police (SP) Deepak Bhukar of this district said, “A youth named Bhim Yadav (25) was killed when a cement shed collapsed in Ojha ka Purwa village of Kotiali area of Lalganj and was buried under the rubble. Bhushan Pandey (56) was killed when the wall of Saghrai Bagha police station collapsed.
They disrupted public life in various areas including Pathar Church, Ashok Nagar, Kachari Road and Mahatma Gandhi Marg. A dilapidated tree also fell in Kalyani Devi area. The storm has caused power outages in several areas of Prayagraj. The local municipal team has started removing trees from the road. Efforts are underway to speed up traffic flow.
