According to reports, the incident took place on May 12 near the B-Block bus stand in Saraswati Vihar under the Rani Bagh Police Station area.

Police reportedly said that the survivor, a married woman and mother of three children, was returning home after finishing work at a factory when she approached one of the accused standing near the sleeper bus to ask for the time. The man allegedly pulled her into the vehicle, where she was sexually assaulted by the two accused before being thrown out of the bus.

Based on her complaint, Delhi Police registered an FIR under Sections 64(1) (rape), 70(1) (gang rape), and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

The survivor was taken for medical examination at Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Hospital, according to reports.

Investigators have reportedly seized the Bihar-registered sleeper bus and are examining CCTV footage from the surrounding areas and along the route of the vehicle. Reports also stated that the bus allegedly had tinted windows, which are not permitted, and lacked emergency exit provisions.

As per reports, police said the two accused are currently in custody and are being questioned. Forensic and medical reports are also expected to form part of the investigation, while officials said all possible angles are being examined.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticised the BJP-led government over the incident. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, in a post on X, termed the case “another Nirbhaya incident” and alleged that women were unsafe in the national capital.
