10 Apprehended in Guwahati’s Ganeshguri After Police Team Attacked During Anti-Social Activity Drive


 

GUWAHATI: Five men and five women were apprehended from Ganeshguri in Guwahati on Tuesday night 23/24 June, after a group obstructed police personnel conducting an anti-social activity drive and assaulted them, injuring four officers including two women police constables (WPCs).

According to police, a team was carrying out a drive in the Ganeshguri area when some individuals raised objections and used criminal force against the on-duty personnel. 

Notably the residents of the area have repeatedly complained about the anti-social activities taking place in the area. As earlier reported by GPlus the local women came out with lathis on the night of Saturday, 20 June, to take matters into their own hands after multiple complaints ignored.

A case has been registered at Dispur Police Station (Case No. 428/2026) under Sections 132, 121(1), 324(4), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The five men apprehended have been identified as Ajay Ali (22), of Sonapur; Bibek Kumar (20), of Shashankarpur Bakhadda, Badlapur, Begusarai, Bihar; Mukesh Shah (24), of Kali Mandir Path, Basistha; Sachin Barman (24), of Aryabhatta Path, Panjabari; and Safiur Hussain (31), of Ramamurthy, Barpeta. Five women were also apprehended; their identities were not disclosed by police.

According to officials further investigation is underway. More of such operations might be conducted.
