Pranayama can be the only way to keep yourself healthy and calm your mind during these turbulent times. It is not a complicated procedure, just five minutes of Nadi Shudhana Pranayama can solve all problems of body and mind.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also cited the benefits of Nadi Indus Pranayama and performed it himself. River tracing is a breathing exercise. It keeps the nerves of the body stable and active. This pranayama balances the nerves by breathing through both nostrils, which relieves various ailments of the body and mind.
To do this pranayama, first sit in a comfortable position with your back straight. It is better to sit in a comfortable position. Then place the left hand on the knee in Jnana Mudra. Bring the fingers of the right hand to the mouth and thinly place the index and middle fingers between the cheeks. Now place the thumb in the right nostril and the index finger in the left nostril. Close the right nostril with your thumb and inhale as much as possible through the left nostril. Then close the left nostril with the index finger and exhale through the right nostril. This will complete one round and this pranayama should be practiced ten to fifteen times with each nostril.
Practice it every morning and at bedtime to get relief from breathing problems. This breathing exercise is also very beneficial for people suffering from asthma and COPD. Regular practice of this pranayama increases brain function, improves memory and increases concentration. It also helps in relieving insomnia.
