Union Minister of State for Agriculture Bhagirath Chowdhury has denied the opposition’s allegations that he took Rs 1 crore subsidy from his ministry. He claimed that the opposition is deliberately targeting him and spreading false propaganda.
In an interview with Aaj Tak, the minister did not deny receiving subsidies. He said that the money was received in full compliance with the government rules. The subsidy is provided under a central government scheme launched in 2014, which provides 50 per cent concession for construction of polyhouses. Thousands of farmers across the country are enjoying this benefit.
Chowdhury, who has been involved in agriculture since childhood, said that he has land in Pih village of Rajasthan’s Didwana-Kuchaman district. Due to acute water shortage in the area, he constructed a large pond and a polyhouse with a capacity of two crore liters to store rainwater. He applied for the subsidyBut the funds were released to him in 2025 only after the construction of the polyhouse and completion of all official verification processes.
Responding to the opposition’s allegations, the minister said that he has put up a big board detailing loans and subsidies on his agricultural land. She questions if he had any bad intentions or if something went wrongThen why would he install such a board. He said that it is not possible for ordinary farmers to set up polyhouses without government support. He also invited other farmers to his farm to learn modern farming. Currently, he is growing onion, carrot, capsicum and coriander in his polyhouse.
