The Indian Armed Forces (IAF) launched Operation Sindoor in response to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pehalgam last year. The opposition has now condemned Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s comments in the Lok Sabha that no Indian soldiers were killed in the operation. Senior Congress leader and Public Accounts Committee Chairman CC Benugopal has issued a direct infringement notice against the Defense Minister for allegedly misleading Parliament with false information.
In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday, Benugopal demanded action against Rajnath Singh for breach of privilege under Article 223 of the Lok Sabha Rules of Procedure. The Congress leader claimed that during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on July 28 last year on the Pehelgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had said that there were no casualties or martyrdom of Indian forces in the operation. However, a recent statement from the government stated that six brave soldiers of the armed forces were martyred during Operation Sindoor.
In his letter to the Speaker, Benugopal wrote that the Defense Minister stood up in Parliament and said that no soldiers were killed in Operation Sindur, which was completely wrong and misleading. For a minister to stand in parliament and give false information or conceal the truth is actually contempt of parliament and violation of rights. Therefore, a case of violation of rights should be initiated against the Defense Minister as soon as possible. Benugopal also attacked the Modi government on the issue. He alleged that Rajnath Singh had made it clear to the people of India that the Defense Minister was lying in Parliament about Operation Sindur. Congress issued notice against Rajnath Singh
Operation Sindur, launched by the Indian armed forces in response to the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pehalgam last year, is now a hot topic in national politics. The opposition condemned Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s statement in the Lok Sabha that no Indian soldiers were killed in the operation. Senior Congress leader and Public Accounts Committee Chairman CC Benugopal has filed a violation of rights notice against the defense minister for allegedly misleading Parliament with false information.
In a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Tuesday, Benugopal demanded strict action against Rajnath Singh under Section 223 of the Lok Sabha Rules of Procedure. The Congress leader claimed that during a debate in the Lok Sabha on the Pahelgam attack on July 28 last year and Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response, the defense minister had said that there were no casualties or martyrs in the operation. However, the government recently said that six brave jawans of the armed forces were martyred during Operation Sindoor.
In his letter to the Speaker, Benugopal wrote that the Defense Minister’s statement in Parliament was completely wrong and misleading. A minister standing in Parliament and giving false information or concealing the truth is contempt of Parliament. Therefore, immediate action was demanded against him. He attacked the Modi government on social media X and said that Rajnath Singh lied to the people of the country. He questioned how the minister said last year that no soldiers were martyred, and now a year later the army is saying we have lost six soldiers. Not informing the public about these brave martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country is an insult to the families and the entire armed forces.
The National War Memorial in Delhi recently inscribed the names of five Indian Army and one Air Force martyrs who lost their lives in Operation Sindoor, making a total of six brave martyrs. This is the first time the government has officially announced the names of the six martyrs since the campaign began in May, with the Defense Ministry also issuing its clarification amid controversy. They said that the country has paid tribute to these brave martyrs at the first opportunity and their sacrifice will be given utmost respect. The ministry claimed that some people on social media had clipped a certain part of the defense minister’s speech on July 28 last year and circulated it with wrong intentions. The ministry said that the minister’s claim of denying the death of the army is completely baseless.
On April 22, 2025, Pakistan-backed terrorists carried out a terror attack on tourists in Pehelgam, Jammu and Kashmir, killing 26 innocent people. In response to the brutal attack, the Indian Army and Air Force jointly launched Operation Sindoor to cross the border and destroy terrorist bases. Now the martyrs of that military operation have created a new conflict between the Congress and the BJP.
