GUWAHATI: Another road accident involving a Green City Bus was reported in Guwahati on Tuesday, July 7, after a bus allegedly struck a scooty rider near Cotton Collegiate Road in the Pan Bazar area, leaving him seriously injured.
Speaking to GPlus, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) confirmed the accident and said, "The accident occurred because the bus driver had deviated from the designated route."
The official further added, "In recent times, the Traffic Police have removed 63 Green City bus drivers and conductors for various traffic-related violations."
According to reports, the accident occurred at the junction where Collegiate School Road meets Hem Barua Road, near the BSNL telephone exchange office. The scooty rider was travelling from the Cotton University side towards Pan Bazar when the bus allegedly hit him.
The stretch is reportedly restricted for the movement of heavy vehicles. Cotton Collegiate Road is also not a regular route for Green City buses, raising questions over how the vehicle entered the road.
Locals at the scene said the injured rider was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for treatment. His condition is yet to be ascertained.
The bus driver allegedly fled the scene immediately after the accident. Traffic police later seized the vehicle and launched an investigation. Officials said efforts are underway to trace the driver.
Further details regarding the rider's condition and the outcome of the investigation are awaited.
