GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday, June 2, met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi for discussions centred on strengthening farmer welfare through effective grassroots implementation of pro-farmer policies.

The deliberations, which included officials of the government of India and the government of Assam, focused on key areas such as agricultural mechanisation, expansion of cold storage infrastructure, improved market linkages, and enhanced utilisation of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund.
The discussions also covered measures to strengthen supply chain systems to improve efficiency and reduce post-harvest losses.
The meeting further highlighted Assam’s Lakhpati Didi initiative, under which nearly 40 lakh women have been empowered through self-help group-based livelihood opportunities, contributing significantly to rural income generation and grassroots economic development.
Taking to X, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @ChouhanShivraj ji has a rich administrative expertise spanning decades and meeting him is always an enriching experience.”
