GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, July 31, said that school uniforms worth approximately ₹8 crore will be distributed to students affected by the floods immediately.

Textbook distribution is already underway, while the Education Department has begun assessing the damage suffered by students and educational institutions due to the floods.
For schools in Sivasagar and Charaideo that have suffered extensive damage, the CM said the government will provide around ₹2 to ₹3 lakh for clearing mud and debris left behind after the floods.
The CM also said that the state government is preparing an assessment of houses, cattle and other assets that have suffered severe or permanent damage. Sarma said the assessment will start on August 7 and is expected to be completed within 15 days.
“While assessing damages, we will factor in 3 key matters- loss of lives, damages to public infrastructure, and long term damage to capital assets,” CM Sarma said.On the education front, CM Sarma said
CM Sarma said sufficient relief materials are being sent to affected areas and ministers will continue visiting their respective areas to assess the damage and monitor relief operations.
According to the CM, the state government intends to take up rehabilitation efforts by September.
Further, addressing concerns of initial flooding in Nagaland and its impact on Assam, CM Sarma said the issue would be discussed at an appropriate time after the relief and rehabilitation efforts are completed.
CM will be visiting Sivasagar and other affected areas over the next two to three days to review the assessment process.
