Award for speaking for society! The court summoned advocate Anindita Das


A court has issued summons to eminent lawyer and environmental activist Anindita Das in connection with the protest against felling of trees in Guwahati’s Bharlumu. The court issued the summons after the police filed a charge sheet in the case recently. The accused lawyer has been directed to appear before the court on June 25, according to a summon sent to his residence by Golghat police station. The government accused Das of being involved in the anti-cutting movement at Bharlumukh.

According to the information received and the lawyer’s social media statement, the government filed a case against him during the Bharlumukh environment protection movement. The Guwahati High Court had earlier granted anticipatory bail to Das after 12 days. The court issued summons to the accused under PRC 165/26 as the investigation of the case was over and the charge sheet was filed. Reacting to the incident, Anindita Das took to social media to say that despite being a lawyer, she stood in court for the first time in her life to speak for the interests of the society.
