A senior doctor of Nagaon Medical College was arrested on Saturday on charges of taking bribe from the family of the deceased in the name of providing post-mortem report. The doctor was arrested on the orders of Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sharma. According to the complaint, The body of the deceased was taken to Nagaon Civil Hospital for post-mortem. Senior doctor Manoj Kumar Sinha demanded bribe from the bereaved family in the name of the report. The whole scene of doctor taking money was caught on hidden camera. The video went public about a week ago‘The district administration has started investigating the incident. The doctor was arrested on Saturday based on the complaint filed by Nagaon Magistrate Kamaljit Sharma.
The deceased have been identified as 19-year-old Arun Kumar (19) of Nagaon and 18-year-old Arun Kumar (19) of Nagaon. He told the media“The arrest of one of our senior doctors is very sad. He had been facing such allegations for the past three months. How inhumane it is to ask for money in the name of postmortem report when parents are crying after losing their child in an accident!, That proves it.” The commissioner also noted that the accused doctor prepared the post-mortem report on his own discretion so that he could get the insurance money if paid by the victims., And threatened not to report if not paid.
