He is the victim of Gautam Gambhir’s lobby! But can talent ever be hidden?? Of course you can’t. And Indian captain Subhash Gill has proved that time and again. His bat shone once again against Afghanistan. Gill scored a great century. Ishan Kishan also scored a century at the same time. The way the left-handed wicket-keeper batsman has performed after returning to the national team is truly commendable.
He also scored a century in the Test match against Afghanistan. After scoring 84 in the first ODI at Dharamshala, Gill scored a 77-ball century at the Akana Stadium. His innings had 13 fours and two sixes. This is his ninth ODI century of his career. Gill had earlier set the record as the fastest Indian to reach 3,000 runs in 62 innings in the first ODI. South African legend Hashim Amla tops the list. He made a record in 57 innings.
Ishan Kishan followed Shubham with a beautiful century. He completed his century in 71 balls with 14 fours and four sixes. After that, the left-handed batsman became more aggressive. He was dismissed for 125 off 79 balls with a six off Nangialia Kharo. Additional fielder Ikram Alikhil caught the Indian wicketkeeper at mid-wicket. In total, he hit seven sixes in the game.
He crossed the 1,000-run mark in 26 innings before scoring his second century at the Akana Stadium. This is also a record. Subhash Gill is the fastest Indian cricketer to score 1000 runs in ODIs. He achieved this feat in 19 innings. They are followed by Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan respectively. Both of them reached 1000 runs in 24 innings. Navjot Singh Sidhu and Shreyas Iyer set the record in 25 innings and Ishan achieved the feat in 26 innings.
