GUWAHATI: A bus hit an electric pole near Sri Sri Sukreshwar Devalaya in Guwahati in the early hours of Wednesday, August 19, damaging the pole and leading to a fire at a business establishment located across the road.
The shop, which housed flowers and other decorative items, was completely gutted in the fire, a shopkeeper told GPlus.
According to the shopkeeper, the incident occurred at around 4:30 AM. At least two Fire and Emergency Services vehicles reached the spot and brought the fire under control within a few minutes.
“The fire incident happened at around 4.30 AM in the morning and there have been no injuries,” the shopkeeper said.
Speaking to GPlus, a police official from Pan Bazar Police Station said that an investigation would be required to determine whether the bus hitting the electric pole was directly connected to the subsequent fire.
“Fire services personnel had doused the fire as soon as they reached,” the official said, adding that the exact cause of the fire would be established after the investigation.
The police official further said there was a time gap between the bus hitting the electric pole and the fire breaking out.
