GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms across several northeastern states over the next three to four days, with the weather system likely to affect parts of Assam, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said.
According to an ASDMA press release issued on Monday, August 3, the adverse weather is expected to impact parts of Cachar, Dima Hasao, West Karbi Anglong, Biswanath, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Tinsukia districts in Assam.
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall with thunderstorms in Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya from August 3 to 5, which may influence weather conditions in the neighbouring districts of Assam.
The weather agency has also indicated that thunderstorms with lightning and extremely heavy rainfall are likely at most places in East Khasi Hills, West Jaintia Hills and East Jaintia Hills in Meghalaya, Papumpare, Kurung Kumey, East Kameng, East Siang, Lohit and Changlang districts of Arunachal
Pradesh. These conditions could have a spillover impact on nearby areas of Assam.
In addition, the IMD has issued a yellow warning (Watch) for most districts bordering Nagaland. ASDMA said the warning could affect Charaideo, Sivasagar, Jorhat and Golaghat districts of Assam.
The disaster management authority has advised residents, particularly those in the affected districts, to stay updated with official weather bulletins and exercise caution during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.
