GUWAHATI: Gulveer Singh created history at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Saturday by becoming the first Indian track and field athlete to win two medals at a single edition of the Games. The Indian distance runner won bronze in the men's 5,000m, adding to the silver he had secured earlier in the 10,000m.

Gulveer clocked 13:24.95 to finish third in the 5,000m. Kenya's Mathew Kipchumba Kipsang won the gold medal in 13:23.61, while Australia's Ky Robinson claimed silver in 13:24.70. Gulveer had earlier won silver in the 10,000m with a time of 27:49.78.
The bronze also gave India its first-ever medal in the men's 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games. Gulveer's double-medal achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian athletics, as no Indian track and field athlete had previously won two medals at the same edition of the Games.
Gulveer serves in the Indian Army with the rank of Naib Subedar and has established himself as one of India's leading distance runners. In 2025, he won gold medals in both the 5,000m and 10,000m at the Asian Athletics Championships in Gumi, South Korea.
He also won bronze in the men's 10,000m at the 2022 Asian Games and bronze in the 5,000m at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships.
Gulveer holds Indian national records in the 5,000m and 10,000m. He also set a national record in the men's half marathon with a time of 59:42 at the New York City Half Marathon in March 2026.
