GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday, July 25, hailed former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following his resignation, describing him as a leader whose contributions to India's education sector would be remembered positively by history.
In a statement, Sarma credited Pradhan with spearheading the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and said he played a pivotal role in "decolonising" the country's education system.
"History will assess Dharmendra Pradhan positively," Sarma said, adding that as Union Education Minister, Pradhan "worked tirelessly to restore the civilisational spirit of Bharat and to decolonise our education system."
The Chief Minister said Pradhan's unwavering commitment to implementing the National Education Policy, despite political challenges, would remain one of his most significant contributions to nation-building.
Reflecting on his personal association with the former minister, Sarma said Pradhan had always shown genuine affection for Assam and had consistently extended support whenever the state required it.
"Whenever Assam needed his support, he stood with us. His encouragement, guidance and goodwill have always meant a great deal to me," Sarma said.
The Chief Minister also recalled the recent inauguration of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Guwahati, describing it as a milestone made possible by Pradhan's vision and commitment to expanding quality higher education across the country.
"Just last week, we had the privilege of inaugurating the Indian Institute of Management, Guwahati. That proud moment was possible because of his vision and his deep commitment to taking quality higher education to every part of the country. The people of Assam will always remain grateful for that," he said.
"As he demits office, I thank him from the bottom of my heart for his dedication, his humility and his selfless service to Bharat Mata. I wish him good health, happiness and strength in the years ahead. I am certain that wherever he serves, he will continue to work with the same sincerity and commitment for our nation," the Chief Minister added.
