Following the Supreme Court’s directive, NCERT has made several important changes in the Class 8 Social Science textbook. The textbook also changed the position of the Congress during Adolf Hitler’s partition and completely deleted Nazi ideology from the chapter on Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Apart from this, the issue of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar’s demand for full Swaraj has been added.
The new version has been withdrawn by the Supreme Court. Grade 8 Social Science book has been renamed as Exploring Society India and Beyond. This book states that only Mahatma Gandhi or a few Congress leaders opposed the partition planInstead, a large section of the Indian National Congress opposed it. It also says that historians still debate whether accepting partition was the only option. The earlier book said that Mahatma Gandhi and most of the Congress leaders, despite their opposition, finally accepted it as the only way.
The new book omits Hitler’s name, citing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s efforts during World War II. The earlier book stated that Netaji sought the support of the dictator and racist Hitler and that Hitler’s Nazi ideals started the war. But the new version says that Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose sought the help of the anti-British forces. It omits everything about Hitler and the Nazi ideology.
NCERT Class 9 Social Science Syllabus has also been changed. french revolutionChapters such as the Russian Revolution and the rise of Nazism were removed from 9th grade textbooks. Instead, it includes early human history, the Harappan civilization, and ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia, Egypt, and China. NCERT has shifted chapters on modern world history to classes. History section expanded to include Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Part of the demand for full swaraj states that VD Savarkar also demanded swaraj in 1925. This historical fact was not mentioned in the previous version.
