A medical professional by training, Dr. Teron is the first elected representative from the Amri constituency, which was formed following the delimitation exercise ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.

His nomination is being projected as a significant step towards strengthening the representation of tribal communities, particularly from the hill districts of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, within the state's legislative framework.

The announcement was made through a post on X by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. In his announcement, Sarma said that Dr. Teron embodies the aspirations of Assam's tribal communities and that his elevation would further amplify the voice of the hill regions in the Assembly.

If elected, Dr. Teron will succeed Dr. Numal Momin as Deputy Speaker of the House. The 16th Assam Legislative Assembly was constituted following the 2026 state elections, with the NDA securing a commanding majority.
