Miscreants Disable CCTV, Loot Donation Boxes at Guwahati's Balaji Temple


 

GUWAHATI: A theft was reported at the Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple at Betkuchi along NH-27 in Guwahati during the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, temple authorities said on Thursday, July 9.

Speaking to GPlus, a representative of the temple management said unidentified miscreants allegedly disabled the CCTV surveillance system for a few hours before stealing cash and other valuables from three donation boxes inside the temple premises.

"We suspect the theft took place late at night. Senior police officials have reached the spot and are investigating the incident," the representative said.

According to the temple authorities, this is believed to be the first reported theft at the Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple since its establishment.

The Purva Tirupati Sri Balaji Temple was established in 1998 with the objective of promoting peace, welfare and prosperity across Assam and the Northeast, according to information available on the temple's official website.
