Prominent feminist writer, freelance journalist, translator and novelist Quilin Kakati’s latest children’s novel ‘Aman’s Assam Journey’ was launched on Sunday. Eminent poet and novelist Dilip Phukan launched the book at a function organized at Prayas Community Library and Research Center premises of Bokakhat National School.
Eminent poet Dilip Phukon said, “Children writers have the biggest responsibility. If that responsibility is maintained, we will get more work from novelists in future.”
This children’s novel by Quilin Kakati is based on a travel experience. It tells the fascinating story of Aman, a child living in New Delhi for his father’s work, searching for his identity and reconnecting with his roots.
The novel is a sensitive description of beautiful nature, simple people, warm hospitality, aroma of rural life, traditional sports, local food, folk culture and traditional values of Aman.
The novel “Aman’s Journey to Assam” is an attempt to give children a new path enriched with cultural consciousness and human values through the novel.
Quilin Kakati is a writer, translator and blogger. Quilin Kakati, who has been writing since college, has edited a feminist book titled “Nape! The Challenge of Gender Equality” and her stories have been published in the Assamese story anthologies “Stories Around Us”, “Spring Sunshine”, “Love Stories”, and “Stories from the Train”. She has also published articles in the Hindi feminist book Algani Pe Arte. Quilin Kakati, who regularly writes literature in Assamese, Hindi and English, is the first children’s novelist.

The program was graced with a recital by Arpita Laing, a student of Prayas Kavya Kanan and a song sung by Rimpi Phukan. The event was hosted by poet-journalist Pallavi Hazarika and the overall management was handled by Malaya Pegu and her colleagues on behalf of “Amar Path”.
